Best for

Producers who want one hands-on desktop box that covers sampled drums AND sequencing of external analog gear: 7 sample-based voices with per-voice Pitch/Decay/Loop/Cutoff/Resonance/Drive/Pan shaping, plus a dedicated CV/Gate track (1V/Oct + gate on 3.5 mm jacks) to drive a modular or semi-modular synth from the same 64-step sequencer. The built-in microphone and 6.3 mm line input make it a fast field/live sampler — grab a sound, drop it into one of 16 user banks, and sequence it with per-step probability, ratchets and parameter locks. Factory content by Richie Hawtin and the Erica Synths team means it is usable for techno-leaning sets out of the box, and the built-in speaker lets you jam without a monitoring setup.

Who should skip

Anyone needing battery-powered portable operation — this is mains-only via the included 12 V wall-wart, so it is not a park-bench groovebox despite the built-in mic and speaker. Skip it too if you need deep sample storage: total memory is 64 MB across all banks, which suits drum hits and short loops, not long sample libraries. And because all 7 voices are sample-based, it will not satisfy someone specifically after analog drum synthesis voices.

Watchouts

Mains operation only — plan around the external 12 V DC wall-wart at gigs (no battery option). The 64 MB sample ceiling is shared across up to 16 user banks, so budget memory if you sample long phrases via the line input or mic. Sync and CV connections are on 3.5 mm jacks while the sampling line input and main outs are 6.3 mm — check your cabling before first session. User-sample backup runs over the USB-C port, so keep backups current if you build custom kits.

Likely add-ons

  • compatible power and data connections
  • monitoring or MIDI setup as required
